Celebrities Alan Carr and Scott Mills double the magic for Big Give Christmas Challenge

Press release: 15 November

Celebrity Patrons of children’s charity Neuroblastoma UK call on the public to help raise £8,000 and accelerate research into neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer.

For the first time, Neuroblastoma UK is participating in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2023, the UK’s largest matched funding campaign. The charity aims to raise £4,000 from online donations with a further £4,000 available thanks to support from The Hospital Saturday Fund and pledges from generous donors.

Between 12pm on 28th November and 12pm on 5th December 2023, donations made to the charity’s project Innovation to Impact - A Cure for Neuroblastoma will be doubled, up to £4,000. That means the charity could have £8,000 to help scientists get closer to a cure and develop safer, less punishing treatments for children with this aggressive cancer.

Alan and Scott are due to feature in the official Big Give campaign video and also star in Neuroblastoma UK’s promotion video with families, researchers, staff and Trustees. They’ll be taking to social media to encourage the public to support the campaign and donate to Neuroblastoma UK during the campaign week.

Alan Carr, Patron of Neuroblastoma UK since 2016 says, “I am incredibly proud to support such an exciting campaign. The money raised during just one week can make a big difference to children with neuroblastoma - and for it to be doubled! Just wow. I can’t wait to see how much we can raise together during the Big Give Christmas Challenge. Please please please support my favourite charity and double the impact of your donation. All you’ve got to do is visit biggive.org.uk to help give children with neuroblastoma a future they deserve.”

Scott Mills has been Patron of the charity since 2021, after a friend’s daughter was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was six months old. He says, “Thanks to amazing research funded by Neuroblastoma UK, there has been progress in treating neuroblastoma. But there is much more to be done. Please support a charity that’s close to my heart and double your donation with the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

Nicki Gillard, Fundraising Manager at Neuroblastoma UK says “Children with neuroblastoma desperately need our help. High risk neuroblastoma has one of the lowest survival rates of all childhood cancers but despite our best efforts, research into neuroblastoma remains critically under-funded in the UK.  We are hugely grateful to The Hospital Saturday Fund and our Big Give pledgers for their generous support . By unlocking an additional £4,000, we can unlock more innovative research and help save more young lives.”
