Corporate challenge raises £25,000

On 28th May 2020, hundreds of people from the investment industry took part in Citywire’s annual charity run, running 5k and 10k distances all across the UK. The virtual challenge raised over £25,000 for Neuroblastoma UK and Saint Francis Hospice.

Usually held in Regents Park, this year’s charity run was adjusted to the current circumstances to be a virtual run, encouraging people to run in their local area whilst adhering to the social distancing guidelines. There were even runners taking part across the globe, including Spain, Switzerland, South Africa and Singapore!

Supporting Neuroblastoma UK and St Francis Hospice

Every year, Citywire’s charity committee chooses two charities to benefit from their fundraising. This year they chose to split the funds between Neuroblastoma UK and Saint Francis Hospice, causes close to the hearts of certain people at Citywire.

Eleanor Mahmoud, who is running the London Marathon 2020 for us this year, nominated Neuroblastoma UK.

Eleanor said, “We were hopeful that we could get this arranged in the space of a few weeks’ time and still raise some money for our nominated charities, but didn’t expect it to be as big as the normal run is. How wrong we were!

“Not only did we smash our fundraising target, raising more for our two charities than we were expecting, we also had over 200 runners and an amazing virtual atmosphere.

“Every runner or company that enters a team is required to make a donation to participate and we had over 200 individual donations! Everyone also logged their runs on Strava, posting pictures and selfies and congratulating everyone else taking part. It was so encouraging and put a smile on our faces all day!

“We feel honoured to be in a position to raise such an amount for Neuroblastoma UK and it really was one of our lockdown highlights.”

Huge thanks to Eleanor and everyone who took part in this fantastic fundraising event.
