Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Every day in the UK, 10 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer.
Research has transformed childhood cancer survival. Since the 1970s in the UK survival has almost doubled. Today, more than 80% of children and young people diagnosed with cancer will survive for at least 10 years. But for some childhood cancers, including neuroblastoma, there is still a long way to go.
Neuroblastoma is one of the most common cancers affecting young children.
Around half of children diagnosed with neuroblastoma have high-risk disease with just a 50% survival rate. For these families, the outlook remains devastatingly uncertain.
Behind every statistic is a child, a family, and a future hanging in the balance.
And survival is only part of the story.
Many children who overcome cancer face lifelong consequences from treatment, including hearing loss, infertility, and other serious health conditions. Whilst their treatments are vital, they are often extremely intensive and many were not originally designed with growing bodies in mind.
For more than 44 years, we have been by the neuroblastoma community's side, funding research.
Our goal is not only to find cures, but to develop better, more effective treatments that give every child the best possible chance of survival and a healthier future.
Because better treatments start with research.
