At Neuroblastoma UK, we're proud to have a dedicated board of Trustees who bring not only valuable knowledge and experience, but also a real passion for creating a brighter future for children affected by neuroblastoma.
We're delighted to welcome three new faces to our Board of Trustees: Janet Davies, Jonathan Anderson and Rebecca Van Goethem.
Each brings a wealth of professional experience, from legal expertise and educational leadership to medical research funding. They also have a personal connection to neuroblastoma, bringing lived experience and a determination to help improve outcomes for children diagnosed with the disease.
We caught up with our new Trustees to share a little more about their backgrounds, their connections to the charity and what inspired them to get involved.
Janet Davies
Following my retirement from local government, I joined our Board with a wealth of legal experience. As a qualified solicitor, I have worked in both private practice and local government, bringing valuable knowledge and insight to my new role.
My connection to neuroblastoma began in 2000, when my son, Rhodri, was diagnosed with the disease. Sadly, Rhodri did not survive, but as a family we have continued to support Neuroblastoma UK through fundraising over the years.
Becoming a Trustee was something I had always hoped to do when I retired. So, when the opportunity to join the Board arose, the timing couldn't have been better. I am delighted to be able to put my legal skills and experience to use for a charity that means so much to me and my family.
Jonathan Anderson
I am currently Headmaster of Campbell College Belfast, having previously led Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh. With extensive experience in education, leadership and community engagement, I hope to bring a valuable perspective to the Board.
My connection to neuroblastoma is deeply personal. My daughter, Matilda (Tilly), sadly died in September 2022, aged just four, following nine months of treatment for the disease.
Tilly's life continues to inspire my commitment to making a difference for other children and families facing neuroblastoma. Through advocacy and supporting vital research, I hope to help drive the development of more effective treatments and give families greater hope for the future.
Rebecca Van Goethem
I am a research management professional with over 10 years' experience working with medical research funders. My professional background gives me valuable insight into the research landscape and the importance of funding projects that can make a meaningful difference.
Following my own close personal experience of neuroblastoma, I decided to join Neuroblastoma UK as a Trustee.
I am keen to bring my professional knowledge and experience to a cause that is personally important to me, helping us continue to fund pioneering research and work towards better treatments and outcomes for children diagnosed with neuroblastoma.
Working together towards a brighter future
We're incredibly pleased to have Janet, Jonathan and Rebecca joining our Board. Their individual experiences, professional expertise and personal connections to neuroblastoma will bring so much to Neuroblastoma UK as we look to the future.
As a small charity, the time, commitment and knowledge our Trustees give us makes a huge difference. Together, we'll continue working towards our shared ambition: finding a cure for neuroblastoma and giving every child diagnosed with the disease the best possible chance of survival.
