Join Alan and Angellica’s Showdown this October!

  • Neuroblastoma UK 7-14 Great Dover Street London, SE1 4YR UK (map)

This October, join Alan Carr and Angellica Bell for our brand new virtual challenge!

Will #TeamAlan or #TeamAngellica reign victorious? That’s up to you! Go the distance this October and help fight childhood cancer.

.

How does it work?

  • Complete your miles in which ever way you like! You could run, walk, ride, roll, swim or row.

  • Each week, team members miles will be added to their teams distance totalizer

  • There’s also a team fundraising totalizer, so each pound you’re sponsored will help your team, as well as helping to fight childhood cancer.

  • You’ll get a free t-shirt once you get your first donation

  • We’ll let you know if you’re in #TeamAlan or #TeamAngellica! Motivational messages from our team captains will encourage you along the way. We’ll send you a signed certificate at the end of the challenge too.

This challenge is a fun way to get active and help raise vital funds for vital neuroblastoma research. To sign up, join our Facebook group, set up your fundraising page and get ready to go the distance in October.

Not on Facebook? Not a problem!

Although this challenge will be run on Facebook, we want to make sure it’s open to all, so if you don’t have Facebook, you can still take part using our paper sponsorship form.

If you’d like to find out more, check out our FAQ’s about the challenge, or email us.

  • You can choose to complete the challenge any way you like – you could run, walk, swim, ride, roll, or row your miles over the month – it’s completely up to you! If you’re stuck for ideas of how to complete your miles, take a look at what others are doing on the Facebook group, or get in touch.

  • Do I have to reach a certain distance over the month?

We want the challenge to be as flexible and accessible as possible, so we’ve not set a distance. It’s up to you how far you’d like to go over the course of the challenge and the miles you’ll complete will help you team towards their total. It’s important that the challenge works for you and that you enjoy taking part in it.

  • Of course! You can use our sponsorship form to fundraise offline rather than using an online fundraising page. Just download and print the form, or let us know if you’d like us to send you a paper copy, and use it to keep a track of the donations you’ve been given or pledged. The details of how to return the form to us along with how to pay in your fundraising are on the form.

Each Friday, let us know what distance you’ve completed over the past week and we’ll add this to your team’s totaliser.

  • We’ll be announcing the teams for the challenge in the lead up to the start of the challenge on 1st October. Although we’ll try to assign people to the team of their preference, we can’t guarantee it. We want to make the challenge as fun as possible for everyone involved and give each of the teams the same chance by having the same number of team members in each team.

  • There are lots of free apps that you can use to track your distance including Strava, Map My Walk and Map My Run. If you have a fitness tracker such as a Fitbit, Garmin or Apple Watch you can also use these to track your distance.

Don’t forget to share how far you’ve completed over the past week with us each Friday, so that we can add your distance to your team’s totaliser. The easiest way to do this is to post a picture of your completed distance that week in the Facebook group.

  • Once you've received your first donation you can request your t-shirt here. We will aim to get this posted out to you within a week of ordering it, but please allow up to two weeks for this to arrive as we are not in the office every day and will be sending it out to you by 2nd class post. If you haven't received your t-shirt after two weeks of requesting it, please email fundraising@neuroblastoma.org.uk.

  • Once you’ve got your fundraising page set up, share it with your friends and loved ones through social media, by email and by WhatsApp.

Here are some of our top tips for boosting your sponsorship:

    Personalise your fundraising page

Add photos and customise your page to tell people why you’re taking part in this challenge. Upload photos or videos of your challenge and post updates of your progress.

    Self-donate

Get the ball rolling and kick-start your fundraising by donating to your own page. It shows that you’re committed to the challenge and your fundraising - and your donation of £5 or £10 could inspire others to match your amount with their own donation.

    Share your page regularly

This really is the best way to help boost your sponsorship, so don’t be afraid of sharing your pages with your contacts. Keep people updated on your progress, and why supporting Neuroblastoma UK is so important to you.

    Say thanks!

Don’t forget to say thank you to your donors who have sponsored you. Let them know how much their support means to you and the incredible things it will help us achieve.

    Matched Giving

Ask your employer if they have a matched giving scheme where they match a certain amount of the sponsorship you’ve raised.

We’re here to support you throughout the challenge. If you’d like some ideas or tips on how to help boost your fundraising to smash your target, then please do get in touch as we’d be happy to help.

  • If you’ve got a question about the challenge that isn’t covered above, or would like to chat through your plans, please get in touch with us by emailing fundraising@neuroblastoma.org.uk or calling 020 3096 7890.

How your donations can help

The money you raise can help develop new, more effective, and less toxic treatments for children with neuroblastoma.

£10 could pay for five glass petri dishes to help researchers grow and study cells, to understand the causes of neuroblastoma

£20 could buy a pack of microscope slides, enabling scientists to examine neuroblastoma cells in minute detail

£50 could pay for equipment to help researchers grow neuroblastoma cells and study possible treatment of the disease

£100 could help pay for a DNA extraction kit, enabling researchers to develop personalise treatment for children with neuroblastoma

Together, we can save more young lives from this horrible disease.
